Planetary Ease

The multiple point perspective in traditional Chinese shan shui (mountain-water) painting organizes space through multiple viewpoints, transforming static landscapes into a realm that can be mentally traversed and inhabited. Today, satellite remote sensing technology constructs a dynamic mode of viewing that seems to position the observer beyond the Earth, enabling users to remotely access, browse, and zoom in on three-dimensional terrains via digital interfaces. Both viewing mechanisms suggest perspectives and dimensions that transcend the scale of individual human experience.

The artist superimposes them through the diancun (dot texture stroke) technique in the Planetary Shan Shui series, allowing nature-once rendered as data-to reemerge as a spiritual presence.

Zen Buddhism regards "enlightenment" as spiritual self-realization, while Zen painting seeks to convey states of mind. In the Enlightenment series, the artist depicts figures in meditation through seemingly spontaneous brushwork, titling them with paradoxical contemporary dialogues that parody moments of enlightenment in Zen koans.

By exploring the tension between inner realization and social recognition, the artist examines how contemporary aspirations for spiritual fulfillment are continually being produced, misinterpreted, and consumed. Interweaving the Planetary Shan Shui and Enlightenment series, the exhibition poses a question: in an age of planetary-scale technology, how might we turn inward?
